Matt serves First Presbyterian Church as Youth Director. Born in West Palm Beach, raised in Daytona Beach, he has two sisters and a step-brother. He is married to Kara and is expecting their first child in February 2011.
For Matt, church was where he grew up. He comes from a family in music ministry (both parents sing in southern gospel music groups) and church, says Matt, “is all I’ve ever known!”
The desire to work in ministry first came to Matt’s attention at a youth camp when he was 18. He knew that God had placed a passion in his heart for students; however, it took several years to sort out the specifics of how and where.
Following high school, Matt ventured north to Valdosta State University where graduated May 2006. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts with a focus on History, English, and Psychology.
Throughout college, Matt was always involved in campus ministry. He served on leadership committees at the Baptist Collegiate Ministry and as an Intern for the Student Minister at Crossroads Baptist Church for two years. There, he worked with youth ranging in age from 13 to 25.
During that time, his call was confirmed and Matt knew that God had gifted him with all that was needed to successfully minister to and lead students to a deeper understanding of who they are in Christ. “God has been incredibly faithful in the last few years,” Matt says, “to open up all the right doors at exactly the right time!”
In his spare time, Matt enjoys everything life presents – from his wife Kara to playing basketball to enjoying a great coffee house. He watches college football (Auburn & Florida State) as well as our own Atlanta Braves. Music is a big part of Matt’s life as he has played in several bands growing up. |
