Community
Groups
“Then Jesus directed them to have
all the people sit down in groups on the green grass.”
Mark 6:39
This “grass roots” movement was begun by a small
gathering of congregants who desired to move past the “hi”
church. This analogy is used to illustrate how many of us
pass beside each other with little more than a “hi!”
Community Groups were created so that our congregation could
begin to 1) know each other
on a deeper level; 2) deepen
Christian relationships; and 3)
stretch ourselves while serving Christ.
In response to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, 8–12
people meet a minimum of every other week. These individuals
covenant to create a community of safety, confidentiality,
worship and study. Activities include (but are not limited
to) sharing of faith stories and struggles, prayer and prayer
requests; and study of scripture or other felt-need materials
(such as parenting and/or marriage). Some community group members participate in service
projects and worship (through song, scripture readings and/or
prayer).
Over the last five years, we have witnessed God’s
faithfulness to our desire for community! Currently there
are a number of community groups in operation and we are looking
for more facilitators.
One couple in each group serves as
facilitators. Groups meet in members’ homes.
Join a community group and get to know those smiling faces
you say “hi” to!
