Presbyterian Women Today
“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” Proverbs 31:29-31
Presbyterian Women Today (PWT) is one of the oldest ministries of First
Presbyterian Church! It was begun — to the glory of God —
in 1875 and still exists today.
For over 200 years the Lord has used PWT to nurture
faith through prayer and Bible study; to support the mission
of the church worldwide; to work for justice and peace; to
build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens
the PC(USA) and witnesses to the promises of God's kingdom.
Within the larger Presbyterian Women Today group, small groups
are formed. Currently,
we have two morning groups and one night group. The current 2011-2012 Horizon Bible Study is Confessing the Beatitudes. Join us! The Day Circle and the Night Circle groups meet on the second Monday of each month. The Day Circle Group meets for business and Bible study from 10:00 - 11:30
a.m. in the Glover Room, followed by a lunch in the Great Hall until 12:30 p.m. The Night Circle meets in the Great Hall for dinner from 7:00 - 7:30 p.m, followed with business and Bible study in the Glover Room until 8:30 p.m. Day Circle groups do not meet
during the summer; however, Night Circle groups meet year round.
The Presbyterian Women Today actively support the missions of our church, denomination and community. Past and present involvement include: annual gatherings, spiritual retreats, Columbia Theological Seminary students, FPC missionaries, Club 3:30, Christmas International House, Meals on Wheels, Must Ministries, Santa Claus Express and Caring hands funds for Presbyterian Village, memorial gifts for women, Chrismon tree, May's Celebration of Mothers with New Babies, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Spring Birthday Offering, Fall Thank Offering, Least Coin and most recently, malaria nets and Moringa trees for Africa and Kroger gift cards for local needs. PWT’s current mission project is making head coverings for individuals undergoing chemotherapy.
