Belize

“If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and he is a foreigner to me. So it is with you. Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try to excel in gifts that build up the church.” 1 Corinthians 14:11–12

In 2004, 13 young adult members and friends of FPC traveled to BELIZE to work in the towns of San Ramon and Orange Walk. Their task: to assist in the building of a church and to be ambassadors for Christ to the townspeople.

The days that these individuals spent in Belize were full of hard work. Most nights, team members fell into their beds exhausted. And yet, God’s blessing was fully upon them as they rose each morning to continue the joyful task to which they had committed.

“I think God was so much bigger to me when I went to Belize. He seemed bigger and mightier and capable of caring for the whole world - not just me in my small corner of the world. I thought I would be taking Christ to them, but Christ was in the people and it was amazing to see them worship the same God in another language”. K.K. Petit

The team found great joy when they;

  • Worked to build a church
  • Hosted a mini-Vacation Bible School for two communities
  • Shared their testimony
  • Participated in a bi-lingual worship service
  • Provided music for the congregation
  • Worked with a neighboring resident to finish the building of his cement home
  • Played with the children of the community

They were thankful for the two days of rest and relaxation they had during the mission. They were able to:

  • Visit and climb Mayan ruins with a Mayan tour guide
  • Walk through the jungle
  • Watch and listen to native Howler monkeys
  • Experience a thrilling nighttime boat ride guided by the stars.
  • Searched for alligators in the river
  • Rest on the beaches of Ambergris Caye
  • Snorkel in the ocean
  • Swim with sharks and stingrays
