Cobb Disaster Recovery

"... whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" Matthew 25:40

Who We Are

The Presbyterian Coalition of Cobb County is a united effort of local PC-USA churches.  After working for many years with Habitat for Humanity, we have expanded our outreach to include other ways of helping with local housing needs.

Hurricane Dennis flooded about 400 homes on July 15, 2005.  Cobb Disaster Recovery was formed to help families in Cobb County who had no flood insurance.  More than 70 families have still not returned to their homes.  The Presbyterian Coalition has committed to help Cobb Disaster Recovery as long as there is a need.

JT and Marshall FamilyJim Tabb, an Elder from Macland Presbyterian (One of our Coalition churches) leads work.  (Macland is situated near the area of the worst flooding.)  Jim started immediately through efforts with his church and helped the Anderson family move back in by Christmas, 2005.  Over time, Jim has opened our hearts and the Presbyterian Coalition Board has enthusiastically committed our help.

Presbyterian Coalition Team Leader, Jim Tabb, has been honored for his work with Cobb Disaster Recovery. In addition to his own labors, Jim leads our Coalition team effort. Please read the article at Cobb Disaster Recovery's website. Renee Marshall's house was the second one that the Presbyterian Coalition worked to restore. Read more on this story covered by WXIA - 11 Alive. Alfreda Martin's house was the third house that the Presbyterian Coalition restored. The Marietta Daily Journal covered this story- read more

How Can You Help?

The working arrangements are different from volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. This work must be customized to meet the needs of each home and the schedule worked around the Homeowner’s situation.

Sign up to be on our email contact list – which will define the work date, location and type of work to be done.  You will be contacted each week by email.

Yes, I am interested in helping the Presbyterian Coalition put people back in their homes that were flooded by Hurricane Dennis. Please put me on your list.
