New Church Development
“Come follow me," Jesus said, "I will make you fishers of men .”
Matthew 4:19
When Jesus spoke these words, he intended for us to follow him and to spread his message throughout the world. Still, right here in Georgia, there are churches that need to be built and Gospel stories that need to be heard!
Cherokee, Greater Atlanta, and Northeast Georgia Presbyteries formed the Tri-Presbytery New Church Development Commission in 2001. The Commission has the ability to plan for new churches within the whole north Georgia area.
The mission of our New Church Development team is to watch for areas of high growth and seek opportunities for building new churches. This is accomplished by partnering with existing churches, church members, congregations, presbyteries, and others to identify the need for a new congregation. The Commission has three staff persons who collect data, propose new groups, and work to develop plans for self-supporting congregations. New Church Development is intended both for traditional Anglo-Americans, as well as immigrant groups.
The Tri Presbytery Commission is composed of members appointed by one of the parent presbyteries. All meetings are open to anyone. The Commission meets four times a year. If you’d like to follow the progress of the Tri Presbytery Commission or become involved as a prayer partner for this ministry, more information can be found at www.tripresbyncd.com.
