St.
James Lunch
“if you spend yourselves
in behalf of the hungry…then your light will rise in
the darkness and your night will become like noonday.” Isaiah 58:9
As God provides for our every need, He asks us to provide
for others. St. James Lunch is a service project performed
by volunteers at First Presbyterian in partnership with five
other neighboring Marietta churches. Through this lunch program,
we strive to assist MUST Ministries in providing weekend brown
bag lunches for area homeless.
Our commitment is to prepare sack lunches on Sunday afternoons
during the months of July and November. We bring loaves of
bread to the church kitchen. Other items (ham, cheese, condiments,
cookies, chips and drinks) are purchased by St. James with
money contributed by each of the six churches. We make sandwiches,
put together lunch bags and serve the folks who come by at
11:30 on Sunday morning.
Five to eight FPC volunteers are required for each Sunday that
lunches are prepared. Usually, these volunteers come from an
existing group within the church such as Sunday school class,
small group, etc. However, we gladly accept supporters of
any age or group!
This volunteer opportunity is a popular activity for becoming
involved in a service ministry. The reward is much greater
than the commitment (only two hours per year) and it allows
church members to interact with and serve those in need.
