“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.”  1 Corinthians 12: 4 - 6

In the gospel, there are stories of a woman named Martha whose gifts were in service to her Lord and those around her.  She was, perhaps, what we would call today “a helping hand.”  The helping hands within First Presbyterian Church are called Martha Ministers. The Martha Ministry mission is to offer personal care – on a temporary or as needed basis - to members and friends of this congregation.  The service of this Ministry is done (in complete confidentiality) to glorify and honor God with glad and willing hearts!

We all face challenges through life and many times,

  • having an extra meal,
  • someone to grab the groceries,
  • help with light household chores is the difference in what gets us through each day.
  • Whether you are celebrating the joy of a newborn child,
  • or facing the challenges of chemotherapy,

Martha Ministers are here to stand beside you. Whatever your needs or circumstance, we want to show you God’s love in action.

The beautiful thing about Martha Ministry is that anyone and everyone can contribute.  Everyone from a teen to a grand-adult can volunteer!

If you are an individual in need, or a willing provider, The Martha Ministry wants to hear from you.  Simply contact and she will connect the appropriate Service Coordinator to the person needing a service.

Here is a list of some of the services that Martha Ministry volunteers provide:

  • Care Cards
These are personal notes sent to those who have experienced a loss, birth, hospitalization, etc.
  • Care Giver Relief
If you are a caregiver in need of some time to yourself, one of our volunteers will take your place in sitting with your care receiver.
  • Child Care
We have folks who would love to help care for your children, when you are in need.
  • Grocery Shopping
Make a list and then let a Martha Minister pick up your groceries.
  • Household Repairs
Light repairs are provided for those who cannot or should not be doing them.  (e.g., changing light bulbs, fixing a broken hinge, etc.)
  • Meals
Let our network of volunteers bring your meals so that you can concentrate on the more urgent matters at hand.
  • Simple Household Tasks
When you are unable, we will help with your laundry, dusting, vacuuming, etc.
  • Transportation
Martha Minister Volunteers can help transport you to and from appointments.
  • Yard Work
If you cannot manage the tasks of yard maintenance, we have individuals who will help you with basic yard work such as mowing, blowing, etc.
