Shepherding
the Flock
"I am the good shepherd; I know my
sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows
me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for
the sheep.” John 10:14
We are all familiar with the words of our Lord from chapter
10 of John’s Gospel concerning Jesus as the Good Shepherd
caring for his sheep. We are his sheep and we are constantly
under his watch care. In the Shepherding the Flock ministry,
congregants interested in acting as a Shepherd are an extension
of this watchful care.
The purpose and objective of FPC Shepherding the Flock ministry
is to maintain contact with and provide care for our large
congregation. Shepherds are a neighborly and Christian voice
to share news and events of the church and joys and concerns
of our members. Likewise, the intent is that the Flock (church
members) would view the Shepherd as the person to contact
with prayer requests for illness, hospitalization, death and
other concerns. A flock member might also pass on news of joy or thanksgiving.
Our Goals: care and concern, communication
and community!
As a Shepherd, you are responsible for connecting and communicating
with ten member families or individuals. You are a caring
and supportive link between members and our staff and a committed
prayer partner. Monthly contact with your flock (via phone
or e-mail) is the extent of your active duty.
The Shepherding the Flock Ministry leaders will provide a
short training session (usually held during two meetings),
pray for your ministry and support you in your efforts to
care for one another.
What a privilege it is to be asked by God to care for His
creation! In order to accomplish our goal of every member
in a Flock, we need you. Please prayerfully consider this
wonderful ministry as a joyful volunteer opportunity.
